Back in 2005 I was given the assignment to capture "workers" in action for The State Theater Company's 'Nickel and Dimed', based on Barbara Ehrenreich's book about low-wage workers and their fight for economic stability. What I saw was the tiniest glimpse into their world of grueling, mundane work, focus, and a dedication to provide for themselves and their families. After this experience I spent a decade photographing many non-profits in Austin. Each place and its people opened my eyes to the simplicities of life and common decency that every person deserves.
